Tom Federle

Tom Federle grew up in Waterville, Maine and graduated from Colorado College and Vermont Law School. He began practicing law in Maine in 1996 and quickly rose to be the managing member of a successful Augusta-based law firm.  Tom represented municipalities, businesses and individuals in regulatory processes before the Maine Board of Environmental Protection, the Maine Land Use Regulation Commission, municipal administrative boards and other state agencies.  He also had a very active appellate practice, having briefed and argued more than 30 appeals from state and municipal regulatory decisions before Maine’s Superior Courts and Supreme Court.

In 2005, Tom was appointed by Governor John E. Baldacci to serve as the Governor’s Chief Legal Counsel.  He served in that role through the Governor’s successful re-election campaign and to the end of the Governor’s first term in office.  In that Office, he provided advice and counsel to the Governor, members of the Governor’s Cabinet and other officials across the executive branch of government.  Upon leaving the Governor’s Office, Tom re-established his private practice of law and in September, 2008, co-founded Federle Mahoney.
